Meet James Evangelista! His self-help book, ‘Roots: Success and Greatness Starts Within You’, is out today! I had the pleasure to interview James and took this opportunity to ask him about his book, inspiration and future plans.

1. Could you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m 22 years old, currently residing in Manila, Philippines. I love sports, reading nonfiction books, meditating, playing video games and watching documentaries.
2. What inspired you to write “Roots”?
My primary goal in writing Roots is to give straight to the point advice in a short book. I know that most people around my age are confused, or they don’t know what it takes to reach their own version of success. Also, I know that not everyone likes to read long books that’s why I kept it short as much as possible, so that they can read the whole book in a single day.
3. What is the most surprising thing you discovered about yourself while writing this book?
What surprised me is I didn’t know I have the ability to do “deep work.” It really surprised me that I can write a thousand words a day on a consistent basis. Maybe it happened because I really wanted to accomplish my goal and share my story with the readers. I think this is the effect of consistent meditation as well. It helped me silenced my mind.
4. What’s the next step for you, are you working on anything right now?
I’m reading books right now about business, electric vehicles, Artificial Intelligence, and Blockchains. Hopefully, I can get some new ideas on those books and apply them to my future startups or businesses. I’m also very interested in making a podcast. The podcast will be an audio version of Millennial Thoughts and have future guests there talk about their own journey that can inspire other people.
5. What advice do you wish you had received before you started writing your book?
The perfect advice I wish I had received is I can never please everyone because if I try to please everyone, I’m sure that I won’t accomplish my goal. I know that some of my future readers won’t like the book I wrote and some of them may like it as well. I just wanted to share my story and give impact to them.
